About Stephen

Stephen grew up in Woodbury, CT, before moving to New York to pursue his undergraduate studies at Fordham University. At Fordham University Stephen’s interest in chemistry led him to begin conducting independent bionanotechnology and materials science research in the lab of Prof. Ipsita Banerjee. In the Banerjee lab Stephen probed the nanoscale self-assembly and molecular synthesis of various biomaterials, and explored their applications in tissue regeneration, drug delivery, and bioimaging.

After graduating from Fordham University, Stephen moved to Middletown, CT, to begin his graduate studies at Wesleyan University. While at Wesleyan University Stephen joined Prof. Brian Northrop’s organic materials research group. There he uses computational and experimental techniques to design and understand selective thiol-ene and thiol-Michael reactions for the synthesis of polymeric and dendritic macromolecules.

Outside of lab, Stephen enjoys competing in triathlons. Stephen was bit by the triathlon bug after his first sprint triathlon (Pat Griskus Tri) in the Summer of 2014. Since his first tri Stephen has completed olympic, half, and full Ironman distance triathlons.
